The Canadian Institute of Theatre Technology (CITT) hosted a session at the August 2010 Halifax Conference on managing student production work

“How Much Rope Do You Give Them?”, was a session facilitated by Susann Hudson, TD and Instructor at Acadia University, and Peter Fleming, Production and Operations Manager at Ryerson Theatre school and Director of P.M. Arts. The session explored such topics as:

  • the balance of power inherent in student/professional production work
  • how various models of staff support can foster morale and responsibility in students
  • how Health and Safety issues are handled within a College or University bureaucracy.

This session formed the basis of an on-going forum for educational Production Managers and Technical Directors at the Production Managing the Arts (P.M. Arts) Conference, held in Toronto each March.
